These units are essentially good for hat storage. We've installed dozens of them in new homes and the failure rate is nearly 50% within 2 years. There was a remarkable 400% increase in callbacks for the same SKU post-COVID vs. pre-COVID. I don't see how Whirlpool survives this kind of poor quality. We swithced to Thermador in our new homes going forward - just trying to run from incessant customer complaints regarding Whirlpool in general and these units specifically.

I purchased this Whirlpool refrigerator, and unfortunately, it stopped cooling after only about one year of use.
I contacted Whirlpool customer service, and this is where my experience became extremely frustrating. The customer service representatives told me that my refrigerator was covered under the sealed system warranty and even provided me with a copy of the warranty information showing the coverage. Based on that information, I proceeded with the repair believing that it was covered under warranty.
However, after the repair was completed, I received an invoice for almost $800.
When I contacted Whirlpool again, I was told that my refrigerator was not covered under that warranty and that the warranty page previously provided to me was not applicable to my specific model. This was completely different from what I had originally been told.
I strongly believe that I was given misleading information about the warranty coverage, and I am extremely disappointed with how this situation was handled. What made the experience even worse was being told that the invoice could be sent to collections if I did not pay it.
I have already filed a complaint with the appropriate consumer complaint department, and I am currently waiting for the results of their investigation.
A refrigerator failing after only one year is disappointing enough, but the way Whirlpool customer service handled the warranty issue has made this experience much worse. Customers should be able to rely on accurate warranty information and professional customer service.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this refrigerator, and I would think twice before purchasing Whirlpool products because of the way this warranty dispute has been handled.

This product is the worst appliance I have ever owned. It is only 4 years old and has gone out 3 times. Out of warranty of course. $2400 in repair cost in that time. I could have bought a new one. No significant response from whirlpool. I would recommend not buying this. Poor product and customer service.

Four year old refrigerator quit cooling. How is that even possible? Is Whirlpool's ability to manufacture appliances that poor? Apparently, repairman stated it's a sealed system that has to be completely dismantled to repair it. Repair estimated to be $1200 and it will be two weeks that our primary refrigerator will be out of service. Good thing our 1977 - 49 year old - Kenmore is still working. Two days after submitting a review: Whirlpool emailed me asking me to contact them. So I did. Here's what they said: "Out of warranty" (duh, I knew that).

I bought the 31-inch Wide SideKicks® All-Refrigerator with LED Lighting - 18 cu. ft. along with the freezer next to one another. 3 years into use and The Fridge has cooling issues. Will not recommend to anyone.

I have to rate this One Star if I could go lower I would, I am on my second frig in 2 years. First frig purchased was 5/2022. Second frig1/2023. Same issue, stops cooling. This one I have now has been serviced multiply times and all components that can be replaced by a repair man has. He said its like a brand new now. Well final repair was done March 2025 and now temp inside refrigerator is at 50 degrees. Would not recommend this item to anyone, I would steer away from this purchase. It needs to be recalled.

This model has some issues with refrigerant leaks, and this is known as per other reviews, and online searches. We purchased Sept 2023, less than 3 years old, and it has failed. Repairing is estimated to be $600 to $1,200. So not worth fixing at this point. We gently clean the coil equipment normally twice per year with a blower and a vacuum. What is upsetting, is environmentally, we are expected to try to be efficient, and manufacturers make ™economical/affordable™ products. But, when we are filling the land fill, and re-cycling, over and over, the energy required far exceeds the ™savings™ of owning a more efficient unit.
When functioning as new, the unit kept food cold as intended

We bought our first fridge in 2018 and it lasted 3 years and failed just outside of extended warranty. Since our kitchen cabinets were custom built for this set, we purchased another unit in 2021 along with the maximum extended warranty. A few weeks before the warranty expired, the fridge stopped cooling. Repairs were completed under warranty, but the fridge stopped cooling again in a few months. Warranty company will not stand behind the repairs and will not honour their work. Will now have to buy a third fridge in 8 years. DO NOT BUY THIS FRIDGE!

This is absolutely the WORST product I have ever dealt with. I am beyond frustrated and completely disappointed. I have gone through TWO of these freezers and THREE refrigerators, and I have had the evaporators repaired at least SIX times. That is completely unacceptable.
These fridges are nothing but junk. I would NEVER recommend this brand to anyone, and I will never purchase another one again.
And now, once again, my evaporator is out and I™™m stuck dealing with yet another repair. This is ridiculous. No customer should have to go through this over and over again. Enough is enough.

this is the 3rd sidekick refrigerator I have purchased the latest one is less than 2 years old.
and they have all had a problem with the sealed cooling system that has failed on all of them now i see why they warranty most other cooling systems for 5 to 8 years and only
1year on this model which seems very unfair or they know that these refrigerators system
will continually fail and is of poor design and the only reason I have to use this model is
because my kitchen was designed around this model and it is the only one that will fit. This is very disappointing they should stand the same behind all their products .

Junk after 4 years. Typically a fridge should have a 5 year sealed system warranty. For some reason this one doesn™™t? Correct me if I am Wrong whirlpool. It is not acceptable to send a fridge to landfill after 4 years.

My wife and I bought this fridge because of a height limitation due to the above fridge cabinets in our kitchen. It is spacious and bright. Seems to maintain its temperature well. The one concern I have is if the door handle will stay in place over the long term. It relies on set screws to hold it in place against some metal studs affixed to the door. So far, we both really like it.
The adhesive protective plastic on the fridge for shipping is difficult to take off and goes under the seal of the door so it doesn't remove cleanly.

I replaced my old Whirlpool unit with this one. Unfortunately, the handle doesn't match the companion freezer as it did in the past. Not sure if I will order a new freezer so they match again.
My only complaint with the icebox is that those drawers are ridiculously small. I don't know why they couldn't give me one drawer that would go the width of the unit. These drawers don't hold much of anything. And having two setr of racks on the door of the icebox wasts a lot of material. Other than that, I am good with the new iebox.

Have bought two of these refrigerators since 2019 and both have had a sealed system failure and the newest of the two just had its compressor go out. 1300$ to fix. Not worth it!!

Absolute worst appliance we have ever owned! We are on our 3rd one in less than 5 years. Our kitchen cabinets were specifically designed for this model, so we have not been able to get a different model without a remodel. They work fine for about a year and look nice, then just stop cooling. Repair companies will say it™™s a leak in the sealed system that they are unable to repair. Whirlpool basically says sorry, but you only had a 1 year warranty.

Best value for the pair all fridge and the all freezer. Competition has changed dimensions 3 times in 20 years the current product no longer fits into the space in our kitchen. Just wish the interior of the fridge was more adjustable. Overall not disappointed even though the compressor is slightly noisy. Glad I do not sleep in the kitchen!

I purchase the product May 2024, as of 12/23/25 it died. I contacted Whirlpool for help and was notified I was out of warranty. when does a refrigerator die after one year service, this is poor workmanship that Whirlpool should repair it at their cost. My last refrigerator lasted 18 years. where is the product quality guarantee, from the manufacturer. Has anyone else experienced this also? And to top it off, they'll someone out in about two weeks, nice Christmas this year! Whirlpool call me back anytime!

Had to buy this refrigerator because parts for the Whirlpool sidekick we bought in 2008 were no longer available. Planned obsolescence? No match available. Had to buy both a new sidekick set. Tried Whirlpool again as that is what our local dealer could get. While the refrigerator. now @ six months old, seems to be working okay the dumbest thing about it is the door shelves. This unit as well as the matching sidekick freezer comes with limited door shelves. We ordered additional shelves. However, I challenge anyone at Whirlpool to insert additional shelves in any workable fashion. Much, much wasted space. Very unusual. Very poorly designed. If I could have returned these units, I would have.

I bought this unit to replace the same model of one that I purchased 3 years ago but failed with a non-repairable internal freon leak. One year warranty is a bummer. I only purchased the same unit so it would match the corresponding freezer unit that I have. Otherwise, I'm not impressed with the quality and reliability of Whirlpool appliances. They used to be much better. I have 4 Frigidaire refrigerators that are over 50 years old and still running great (back when Frigidaire was owned by General Motors by the way).

We bought the all-in-one side by side freezer and fridge (I did not purchase the extended warranty because it was too expensive). It looks absolutely beautiful in my kitchen and I have had many compliments. I paid top dollar for these appliances. My freezer went after three years - evaporator.. I had it replaced and had to pay for the service call because the warranty just expired. My fridge just went after five years and it™™s the internal refrigerant leak needs to be replaced. The technician told me it would cost $1500.00 to replace plus labour. This is ridiculous that this product is going to the landfill. I have a fridge next door that is 20 years old and I paid $500.00 and it™™s still running. My husband doesn™™t want me to replace the fridge with Whirlpool because of defective appliances. I™™m in a dilemma because my new kitchen will have two different brands and aesthetically won™™t match ð

This is my 3rd one of these. If we hadn't made the mistake of building our kitchen around them I would of never ordered this one or the last one. However I do love all of the room it does give us especially during the holidays and when we have lots of company. That being said, it is a poor design that is designed to fail. Wish ya'll could get it together on this one because it looks amazing in my kitchen but just not sure in our new home we will go this route again.

Il est spacieux et fonctionne comme il se doit. Cependant je trouve que garantir un rÃfrigÃrateur de ce prix seulement 1 ans n™™est pas correct. J™™espère que celui-ci durera plus longtemps que le prÃcÃdent car le coût de rÃparation du prÃcÃdent ne valait pas la peine.

In the last 6-7 weeks 2 compressors have failed. I have no working refrigerator in my kitchen for over 2 wks now . We are in our 70's and just don't understand how this happens. The appliance should be replaced at this point. We have lost all confidence in whirlpool products and that is a shame because you used to do much better. The new parts are supposed to come in in 2 days then wait for install. How would feel about this in your home? We have a frig in our garage but shouldn't have to deal with the extended inconvience.This refrigerator should be replaced, then examined for why it failed. Fix it and donate it to a foodbank. I am a retired dentist of 34 years and never had to advertise. Quality of your work always is what is remembered. I'm not trying to carp about this but Whirpools trust has to be earned. No matter what public we serve, we should always be willing to inconvience ourselves more than we inconvience them. Be always willing to listen to what we need and not to what we want. Beware! Stay away from this refrigerator and this brand! Mine only lasted 11 months, and even after paying for the extended warranty, they haven't fixed the problem. The product is useless, the warranty is useless, and worst of all, the company is useless. I've been waiting a year for a second opinion from their own technicians, and they haven't offered any solution. It's garbage; don't buy it, and the customer service is terrible.

I am on my second Side kick, in theory I like it, but my second one is only 2 yrs old and I probably will need a third. The problem is that you have to match the freezer. The space set in my new house 15 yrs ago was set for just this side kick. Would I do this again NO. I hope this one can be fixed or under my warranty I new one can be purchased.

I really like our new fridge, it is a replacement for our last exact model that was over 15 years old.
Two issues though. 1. when the delivery guys put the handle on, they dented it which indicates that its not as solid as the previous model. And 2. I really dislike that they changed the handle, it is higher up and a different style and now it doesn't match our freezer. Its a big deal because we don't need a new freezer right now, so disappointed.

The clear, sticky, plastic wrapping is an absolute pain to remove cleanly and not get exhausted trying to remove it. The sticky blue strips aren't any better, There is a fear of damaging the aluminum finish. Can't you find an easier, yet protective covering?
The failure of 2 past sidekick refrigerators is exasperating. The electic system is poorly designed.
Overall, we enjoy the sidekicks when there isn't any repairs. The last refirgerator lasted less than 3 years.

Please read all of the 1 star reviews and don't plan your kitchen around this one. I usually look at a balance of reviews but even our amazing repairman's experience aligns with these customer 1 star experiences. Many of the 5 star reviews make their reviews after using this only for a month or two. My experience early on was great too - until it wasn't.
We purchased this sidekick just 15 months ago, in July (just 3 months out of warranty!) to replace our other sidekick and it stopped cooling yesterday. We have been Whirlpool customers for almost 12 years and this is crazy. The cost to repair this will be extremely high. Doing the math we paid $126 per month, in addition to electricity to cool our food. We are so disappointed with our purchase. If only we could get another original like we purchased back in 2012/13.
